This fly is a Mayfly imitation that originates from USA but is effective anywhere there are mayflies and trout. It is certainly a must-have fly here in NZ. Particularly good on fast flowing sections of rivers due to the high buoyancy provided by the deer hair body.

Tail: Deer or moose hair (could use brown cock hackle-fibres
Body: Clipped natural deer hair
Hackle: Brown cock

Black Marabou


The combination of black, silver and red are the classic colour combination for catching trout. The black marabou wing on this fly gives great movement underwater and this is a well-established and popular fly.
